|
Gorrin encounters many characters within "The Adventures of Gorrin the Gnome" and this page is devoted to a brief 'Who's Who' to help the reader to understand the various traits of them. As Gorrin progresses on his adventures the list will be supplemented. The listing is arranged in the order in which Gorrin actually meets them.
Book 1: 'The Adventures of Gorrin the Gnome' Tom (Chapter 1) Tom is a bulldozer driver who enjoys his job, particularly when it comes to demolishing things. He works with his co-worker Patrick and the pair of them have the job of carrying out the initial site clearance, once they have identified the correct area to be cleared. Unfortunately, the pair are both inept and frequently make mistakes. The always manage to get away with it, by making sure someone else gets the blame.
Patrick (Chapter 1) Patrick is the boss of the pair, due mainly to the fact that he is better at map reading than Tom. Unfortunately his map reading skills are very poor and he frequently makes mistakes. In the case of Gorrin's ancient woodland, he manages to read the map upside down and this results in the wrong area being partially cleared. He always manages to blame Tom whenever he is in a position where he might be caught.
Seamus (Chapter 1) Seamus is an old childhood friend of Gorrin who just happens to be a Leprechaun whom he has not seen for many centuries. Gorrin reminisces about his old friend soon after waking from his long sleep.
Damien (Chapter 3) Damien is an arrogant fifteen year old boy who love cycling. He has a malicious sense of humour. He pushes/knocks Gorrin into the Grand Union canal. His actions ultimately result in him taking a dip into the canal himself.
James, Simon and Sarah (Chapter 4) Three young friends, who are practical jokers and pranksters. James is the oldest boy and Simon the youngest - Sarah is the middle of the three in age. They are not malicious normally, but don't like having the tables turned on them. They decide to take advantage of a day's holiday from school to carry out their biggest prank to date, when Gorrin encounters them.
Lady Boater & Partner (Chapter 4) The lady is a very proud boat owner, who loves to keep the craft in spick and span shiny order. Unfortunately for these two they become the first victims of the rotten tomatoes and stink bombs used by James, Simon and Sarah.
Brian Yates (Chapter 4) Brian is the owner of one of the few working canal boats and is transporting a cargo of stone for a local council, when Gorrin first meets him. Brian becomes Gorrin friend soon after they first meet. In the past, he was involved in the armed forces, but eventually he had decided that he wanted to retire to a quieter less stressful life. With some of his savings he had bought himself a working canal boat and with it had retired to the canal system.
William (Chapter 7) Will is a boat repairer, employed at the boatyard. Gorrin saves him from being crushed by a boat when it slips from the slings whilst being lifted from the canal, but William is unaware of Gorrin, due to the fact that he is invisible at the time. George (Chapter 7) George is the boatyard owner, who is more than a little set in his ways, as becomes apparent by his failure to keep the chandlery shop secure with a working alarm system. In spite of this, he is very intelligent and quickly realises that the strange and odd happenings around the boatyard are somehow related to the appearance of Brian and his boat the "Round Tuit". Lee (Chapter 7) One of the two thieves who break into the boatyard chandlers. An opportunist thief, who quickly loses his nerve once objects start flying through the air with no apparent cause. His fellow accomplice is also his friend. Kevin (Chapter 7) One of the two thieves who break into the boatyard chandlers. He follows Lee as a friend and fellow accomplice. Francis (chapter 7) Shop owner and coin collector, has been in the business of coin collecting for many years. His curiosity is roused when Gorrin and Brian walk into his shop with a marvelous collection of ancient coins. Although he is a hard business man, he gives the two visitors a good price for the coins in the hope that they will return with more. Old Lady (Chapter 9) This unfortunate lady becomes injured, but Gorrin comes to the rescue and heals her with one of his magical healing creams. This is one gnome that Gorrin will avoid if possible, but with whom he has tangled with in the past.
Zorrin (Chapter 20) Gorrin's father who is now very old - nearly eighteen hundred years old, but still very active for an elderly gnome. He has taught Gorrin much of what he knows, although there are still a few things that only Zorrin knows.
Shorrin (Chapter 20) Gorrin's mother is slightly younger than Zorrin, at only sixteen hundred years old. Although Gorrin has long since been 'of age' she still likes to 'mother' him. The events of the past centuries have taken their toll on her however.
Borrin (Chapter 20) Older than Gorrin, Borrin is the eldest of the children of Zorrin and Shorrin and probably one of the most emotionally sensitive of the gnomes.
Torrin and Morrin (Chapter 20) Younger brothers of Gorrin and twins but very different in their character. Morrin is very inquisitive, whilst Torrin is much more studious.
