Gorrin the Gnome is awakened from over 350 years of slumber by the destruction of his cosy home.  Accident-prone Gorrin realises that he has been asleep for a substantial time, but he is not sure exactly how long. Resolving to search for his long lost family he packs his magical backpack. Gorrin sets off on his adventures to find his parents and siblings and discovers that society has changed and technology has greatly advanced over the years since he hibernated. Gorrin encounters a renegade gnome who has embraced the dark arts and tried to interfere with human affairs and who turns out to be a pivotal character to the story. This dark gnome has succeeded in starting and making worse, plagues in the area of Oxford during the 17th Century. The Gnomic Code governs the amount of his involvement in human affairs, despite this Gorrin manages to save people from dangerous situations along the way, but only by the use of magic. Eventually, Gorrin tracks down his family to Hampshire and after an emotional greeting he is taken to his parents present home in the New Forest . Despite the joy at the reunion, these first adventures conclude with Gorrin being left with the challenge of finding his lost brother and sister.
