Gnomes have been users of magic for thousands of years, but the use to which it was put was limited by the Gnomic Code. The sunstones that the gnome use to communicate over long distances are relatively rare, but Gorrin has a number of these stored within his magical backpack. The communicator sunstones are highly polished smoky quartz crystals that require charging at least once per month, otherwise their range starts to drop until they can no longer function. Fully charged, they can communicate over any distance. All the user has to do to operate them is hold the stone in the palm of the hand and call the name of the person who has a similar stone. The stones are tuned to the owner, but they are capable of switching and storing multiple users. On calling the name of another who has one of the communicator sunstones, the face of the person appears on the surface of the stone after an initial swirling of the smoky quartz. It is is also possible to hear the voice of the other person, but the sound is rather tinny. The image only appears when the person you are calling actually holds the stone in the palm of their hand also.
